Sweden - Swedish company Lundin Petroleum AB has stopped drilling an exploration well in the Luno oil field in the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) due to fire, spokeswoman Maria Hamilton told today Swedish newswire Nyhetsbyran Direkt.
The company is currently investigating the scope of the fire, Hamilton said, but could not say when drilling could be resumed.
The fire, which started in an electrical panel on Christmas Day in PL 338 in the North Sea, has only affected an exploration well so Lundin Petroleum's production will not be hampered, according to the spokeswoman.
The Swedish company is operator of PL 338 and has a 50% interest in it. The other licence partners are the Norwegian units of German oil and gas producer Wintershall, part of chemicals group BASF, and of RWE Dea, part of German utility RWE AG with 30% and 20%, respectively.
