Houston. Baker Hughes recently completed a successful record-breaking run using the 4 3/4-in. AutoTrak™ eXpress™ rotary steerable system. Baker Hughes engineers suggested the system to an operator interested in drilling an extended-reach lateral in the Wildcat Wolfcamp Field of Chaves County, N.M.
The combination of AutoTrak eXpress and the 4 3/4-in. Ultra X-treme™ LS modular motor provides the capability to stay within the zone while completing the planned 4,000-ft (1219-m) lateral. This bottomhole assembly drilled 4,092 ft (1247 m), completing the lateral in a single run and saving the operator several days of rig time, unnecessary trips, non-productive time and associated costs. It also helped set a Baker Hughes U.S. Land run-time record of 193 hours (total) with the AutoTrak eXpress system.
