Abuja. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has called for cooperation among public and private sector oil and gas stakeholders in Nigeria and Uganda. The President made the call during bilateral talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala, on Saturday July 24.

Windhoek. Vitol Group, the world's largest independent energy trading company, has confirmed that it is involved in exclusive discussions to buy all of Shell's retail and distribution units in 19 African countries, including Namibia. 

Cairo. Eni has started gas production from the Tuna field on the Temsah concession in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Egypt, the company announced on 19 July. By the end of its ramp-up period in September, the field will produce 4.5mn cmd of gas, of which Eni's equity share will be about 8,500 b/d of oil equivalent (boe/d).

Accra. Tullow Oil plc (Tullow) announces that the Owo-1 exploration well in the Deepwater Tano licence offshore Ghana has intersected a significant column of excellent quality light oil. Results of drilling, wireline logs and samples of reservoir fluids have established Owo as a major new oil field requiring further appraisal.

Ankara. Turkey will likely see the fastest medium to long-term growth in energy demand among the IEA member countries," said Nobuo Tanaka, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), today in Ankara. Presenting the new study Energy Policies of IEA Countries – Turkey 2009 Review, he noted that although ensuring sufficient energy supply to a growing economy remains the government's main energy policy concern, "Turkey has also progressed significantly in all other areas of energy policy over the past few years."

Argel. Algeria plans to hold a tender for the right to develop more of its oil and gas fields by the end of the year, Algerian Energy Minister Yusef Yusfi said.

Luanda. An oil project called "PAZFLOR" of the company Total Angola will produce 220,000 barrels of oil daily will be presented by the company in the International Fair of Luanda (FILDA/2010). Speaking on Thursday to Angop, the company spokesman, André Teixeira said that the Project was discovered in 2000 and is located at 150 kilometres off Angola coast between 600 to 1,200 metres blow sea level.

Accra. The 'hawks' and 'ideological dinosaurs' who have been pulling the strings from behind the scenes within the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) relative to the latter's confused, ill-defined initiative to buy the shares/stake of Kosmos Energy in the Jubilee Oil Field, have outdoored a 'new secret strategy' tailored to prolong and/or scuttle the on-going negotiations between the Government of Ghana (GoG) Team appointed by President Mills and the US Oil giant, ExxonMobil.
