Tullow Acquires 6 Licenses, Expands Footprint in East Africa

Adis Abeba. Tullow announced the acquisition of a 50% operated interest in six adjacent licenses covering the East African Rift Basins of Kenya and Ethiopia, an area of 97,000 sq km.

Tullow has signed agreements with Africa Oil Corp to gain a 50% interest in five licenses; Blocks 10BB, 10A, 12A and 13T in Kenya and the South Omo Block in Ethiopia. This acquisition expands on the farm-in to Block 10BA from Centric announced in August.

Shell near finishing new Nigeria pipe

Abuja. Supermajor Shell said today its Nigerian joint venture, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), was close to completing a new $1.1 billion pipeline to the Bonny export terminal which will have a capacity of 600,000 barrels per day.

ADX identifies hydrocarbons at Lambouka well

Tunis. ADX reported at 0600 hrs Tunisian local time on August 26, semisub Atwood Southern Cross was drilling ahead at a measured depth of 2,511m.  Since the last operations report earlier this week, the Abiod Formation limestones which are the primary target for the Lambouka well have been encountered. The Abiod intersection was associated with some losses of circulation fluids, an increase in background gas shows and an anomalously high resistivity on the Measurement While Drilling (MWD) electric logs.

Shell reopens Nigeria flowstations

Lagos. Shell said today it had reopened two oil flowstations in Nigeria's Niger Delta shut down two days ago due to a protest by local women over a lack of development in their community.

The Anglo-Dutch supermajor shut the Otumara and Escravos flowstations in Delta state on Tuesday but gave no details on whether production had been affected.

Accra. Tullow reported its half-yearly results for the six months ended June 30, 2010. These results are presented in US Dollars, the Group's presentational currency with effect from January 1, 2010.

BP delays plans for deepwater drilling off Libya

London. BP PLC has delayed the launch of its deepwater exploration for oil off Libya for an unspecified period of time in an effort to ensure that its plans are in order.

Israel approves Tamar gas development plan

Houston. Israel's government has approved Noble Energy's development of the Tamar gas discovery in the deepwater sector of the Levantine basin in the Mediterranean Sea. Until recently, Noble and its partners planned to develop the field using an option (Tamar North) that would flow gas to a new onshore receiving terminal in northern Israel. However, the selection and approval process for the site of the terminal has been delayed.

Total Launches CLOV Development On Block 17 In Angola

Paris. French oil giant Total SA (TOT) Wednesday said it is launching the development of its Clov oil field project in Angola's deep offshore Block 17.
