Cairo. Eni has started gas production from the Tuna field on the Temsah concession in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Egypt, the company announced on 19 July. By the end of its ramp-up period in September, the field will produce 4.5mn cmd of gas, of which Eni's equity share will be about 8,500 b/d of oil equivalent (boe/d).

Ankara. Turkey will likely see the fastest medium to long-term growth in energy demand among the IEA member countries," said Nobuo Tanaka, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), today in Ankara. Presenting the new study Energy Policies of IEA Countries – Turkey 2009 Review, he noted that although ensuring sufficient energy supply to a growing economy remains the government's main energy policy concern, "Turkey has also progressed significantly in all other areas of energy policy over the past few years."

Argel. Algeria plans to hold a tender for the right to develop more of its oil and gas fields by the end of the year, Algerian Energy Minister Yusef Yusfi said.

Los Angeles. Oman plans to invest $3.5 billion in the coming 5 years in an effort to boost the country's oil production by 18%, according to the finance ministry.

"We are targeting an average of 1 million b/d by 2015, and we will be spending some $3.5 billion in the next 5 years to achieve it," a ministry spokesperson said.
