Sasol, Statoil, Chesapeake form JV to explore Karoo Shale

Eastern Cape. Sasol reported the successful award of a joint application with Statoil and Chesapeake for an onshore petroleum Technical Cooperation Permit (TCP) in South Africa.

The TCP covers an area of approximately 88,000km2, primarily located in the Free State and also covering areas in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

GE to Provide Transnet Pipelines with Power Generators

Johannesburg. GE South Africa Technologies (Pty) Limited (GESAT) today announced an agreement to provide Transnet Limited with 10 medium speed, diesel-powered generators for Transnet's new multi-product pipeline currently being constructed between Durban and Johannesburg. GESAT is GE Transportation's South African subsidiary in partnership with the Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC).

South Africa in talks with Qatar to buy LNG

South Africa. South Africa is in discussions with Qatar to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Gulf state, the South African ambassador to Qatar said on Tuesday. Talks with state-run LNG giant Qatargas have been ongoing for about a year, Vincent Zulu told Reuters by telephone.

Total discovers oil on offshore Angola block

Angola. Total has said that its subsidiary Tepa (Block 15/06) and its partners have made two oil discoveries in Angola at the Nzanza-1 and Cinguvu-1 wells, in the deep waters of the Angolan offshore.
