UNITED KINGDOM - In early April, the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) was asking the government of the United Kingdom for intervention to help the country's renewable energy prospects, warning that the global economic crisis was putting projects, particularly offshore wind projects, at risk.
The trade body's pleas were answered later that month as the government announced its support for offshore wind energy with around GBP 525 million (US$760 million) in Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) rather than direct funding.
UK port traffic wanes 9%in the first quarter of 2009
UNITED KINGDOM - Cargo traffic at UK ports fell by 9 percent in the first quarter from a year ago, led by sharp falls in containers, roll-on, roll-off shipments and cars amid the sharpest economic contraction in nearly three decades.
Ithaca Energy ups Jacky field production
UNITED KINGDOM - Ithaca Energy Inc and its wholly owned subsidiary Ithaca Energy (UK) Limited has announced it has started operating the downhole pump on the Jacky field, increasing gross production rates to approximately 10,000 barrels of dry oil per day (bopd) (6,728 bopd net to Ithaca). This rate is significantly above the levels expected from the field with both the well and the reservoir performing strongly.
