Bulgaria to have 40% alternative gas supplies in 2020

Nabucco pipeline

BULGARIA - Until 2020, around 40% of the natural gas that Bulgaria uses will be provided though the Greek TGI pipeline, Nabucco gas pipe, and liquefied gas terminals.

That was announced Friday by the Energy Minister, Petar Dimitrov, who also said that currently there was no proper infrastructure for import of liquefied gas for alternative gas supplies. Country's future plans are gas pipelines from Russia, Caspian region, Near East, and North Africa to pass through Bulgaria, the Minister explained.

Meanwhile, connections with Greece, Turkey, Serbia, and Romania can be established, and that will be completed in shorter time and will cost less, Dimitrov added.

In his words, Bulgaria's priorities are construction of liquefied gas terminals, expanding the capacity of the Chiren gas storage, and construction of new gas storage.
